A complete copper-alloy Medieval to Post-Medieval mount, dating to the period AD 1400-1600. The mount is a slightly irregular heart shape, with slightly flattened upper curves. It is very slightly convex on the front, decorated face, concave on the back. The decoration on the front consists of two parallel, continuous lines of wriggle-work that mostly follow the shape of the heart, one c2.5mm from the edge, the other c4.5mm from the edge; these lines form a downwad curve at the top of the heart rather than following the contours of the lobes of the heart On the reverse there is a central attachment loop of separate construction in a different alloy, fixed horizontally c4mm below the tops of the curves. There is a dark green patina on the front surface of the mount, and an area of red-brown on the reverse between and around the loop attachment sites.
Read, (2001, 17, nos. 132 & 133) illustrated two very similar examples which he dates to the 15th-16th centuries and others are recorded on this database.
The mount measures 22.7mm in height, 20.9mm in width, 6.1mm in thickness across the attachment loop and 1.8mm excluding the loop; it weighs 3.57g
