Cast lead button of late medieval date (c. 1400 - 1500 AD). The button is large, flat and circular. The front face is very worn design in relief of the crowned facing bust of the Virgin Mary with floral sprays at either side of her head can just be made out. The back face has a central oval spur, representing the remains of the integral attachment loop. Also on the back is a ridge that runs centrally across the face and is a remnant from the casting process. The edges of the button are slightly chipped. The object is dark grey in colour. It is 25.65mm in diameter, 6.61mm at maximum thickness and weighs 10.38g.

A similar, if less detailed, example is depicted in Bailey, Buttons and Fasteners 500BC-AD1840, p. 19, fig. 6.11, which is dated to the fifteenth century. See also LANCUM-F26AC8, which is almost identical and found in close proximity to this one.
