A copper alloy English Sterling bust Jetton, early 14th century. Obverse: facing portrait as per long cross pennies of the period, within a beaded border surrounded by a false legend of pellets. Reverse: long cross pattee with letter A in two quarters, within a beaded border surrounded by a false legend of pellets and lines. The jetton has a central piercing on the reverse only which does not go through to the other side.

Notes:

These jettons are decorated to approximate a contemporary silver long cross penny. Similar jettons are illustrated in Mitchener (p104) and are dated to c. AD 1302-1350.
