Medieval (mid 12th to mid 14th centuries) strap fitting; mount. The copper alloy mount, in plan, has an oval shaped body with an integral sub-oval knop at either end. Each knop has a rivet hole, within which remains of a copper alloy rivet. The mount is decorated with transverse grooves on the body. The body and knops are domed in profile and hollow on the reverse. The surface of the mount has a dark grey abraded surface. The mount measures 17.9mm long, 10.45mm wide and 4.62mm thick. It weighs 1.42g.
Egan and Pritchard (2002) illustrate similar mounts, for example, No. 1161. These mounts tend to date to between the mid 12th to mid 14th centuries.
