A complete cast copper-alloy strap fitting or guide of Post-Medieval to Modern date, c.AD 1700-2000.
The strap fitting is oval in plan and rectangular in section. In the centre of one end, where the oval narrows, is a regular circular hole perforating the object. In the centre of the other end, where the oval narrows, is a regular oval hole perforating the object. At one side of the oval perforation the metal sides narrow evenly on top and bottom, forming two terminals which are triangular in profile and rectangular in section. Between the two terminals is a 2mm wide slot stretching from the edge of the object to the edge of the oval perforation. The strap fitting is undecorated.
The metal has a greenish-brown patina. The strap fitting is 44.6mm in length, 25.7mm in width, 6.4mm thick, and weighs 31.8g.
