A complete lead alloy possible spindle whorl of Unknown date (c. AD 43-c. 1800).
The spindle whorl is sub-circular and is hemi-spherical, domed at the top and flat on the underside. A central hole has parallel sides and is 5.0mm in diameter. This spindle whorl has a coarse surface and is greyish buff.
Length: 19.4mm; width: 16.3mm; thickness: 7.2mm. Weight: 11.09g.
Plain spindle whorls and weights were cast locally in lead from the Roman period onwards and are hard to date precisely although most are late Medieval or post-Medieval.
