An incomplete copper alloy Iron Age (400-200 BC) La Tène I type brooch, missing part of the spring coil and the pin.
Two coils survive of the spring, to one side of the head; it is assumed another two are missing from the other side and would have extended into the pin. From the centre-most coil the bow extends, D-shaped with high sides in cross-section (almost a square with once convex edge). It measures max.6.2x5.1mm at the centre of the bow, narrowing to c.5mm x c.4mm at either end.
The foot extends at the other end of the bow with the catchplate curl to one side. The foot turns in profile to curl upwards and back on itself, terminating in a flattish collared knop (6.7x5.7x5.5), sub-square in cross-section with a flat top, underside and end, and convex sides. The collar is comprised of a pair of narrow ribs. The brooch is otherwise undecorated.
Patches of a shiny, smooth and dark green original patina survive along the bow and the reverse of the brooch. Elsewhere is has a rougher surface, a brighter and lighter green in colour. The brooch measures 56.5mm in length, 7.1mm in max. width (across the incomplete spring) and weighs 11.84g.
