An incomplete copper alloy buckle, probably a spur buckle, dating from the Medieval period, about AD 1200 - 1500. The buckle frame is missing. It has a narrow integral plate of D shaped cross-section. At the attachment end is a small, trefoil terminal. A copper alloy rivet passes through the plate in the centre of the trefoil, and there is a copper alloy rove on the reverse. Closer to the middle of the plate is a transverse oval plate forming a collar. The plate expands beyond this, and there is a similar oval wide collar next to the frame, with another rivet hole containing the remains of a copper alloy rivet through it. There is a final hole for the pin, which is missing. The plate has traces of gilding surviving, and is badly bent. The buckle is 31.6mm long, 9.2mm wide and 5.2mm thick. 2.4g.

Compare Meols number 769. More complete examples of this type of buckle can be found on the database. See for example references SWYOR-1A0919, IOW-DA2B09 and SWYOR-0F8F71.
