Copper-alloy fragment from a tumbrel or folding coin balance of medieval date (c. 1300 - 1450 AD). The object is broadly rectangular in plan. Its curved upper face terminates at one end in a stylized animal head, with a rounded head, flat snout and indented, circular eyes. The other end has a rectangular depression. A similar rectangular depression runs along the back face of the object, from beneath an instepped rectangular section to the bottom of the zoomorphic head. This originally would have formed a casing for the balance arm. The object has a smooth, dark-brown patina. It is 65.88mm in length, 11.45mm in width and 7.06mm at maximum thickness. It weighs 16.99g.
