A complete, cast lead alloy palm guard of the Post Medieval period, AD1600-1900.
The object is roughly semi-circular in shape with one convex surface with the other being flat, with a flat edge.
The upper convex surface is heavily pitted on one end, with the other end being almost smooth, possibly due to wear.
The general appearance of the object suggests it may have been home cast.
Palm guards, such as this object, were for use by a leather worker or sail maker to protect the palm whilst stitching.
It appears that, with this guard being semi circular, it was possible that it was one of a pair cast in a single circular mould.
