An incomplete post medieval copper alloy fitting from a sword belt, dating to c.1500-1700. This is one of three mounts that would have hung from a larger mount by the hook which is now missing, the other end would have attached to the scabbard strap. The plate is sub triangular in shape, and is decorated in a symetrical foliate design with fronds to either side from a central stem. The terminal end widens out in a trifoliate shape, with a central rivet hole for attachment. This has orange iron staining inside. The opposite end has two sub triangular projections either side, with another rivet hole in between these. This is now full of corrosion. At the top edge above the rivet hole there is a worn break where the hook would have originally attached. The reverse is undecorated. The fitting has a dark green patina, with light green staining in the centre of the plate. The fitting measures 36.8mm in length, 21.2mm in width and weighs 6.00g.
A similar fitting can be seen in Read 2001, page 43, number 373.
