Incomplete cast copper-alloy spectacle buckle with just one loop remaining, the strap bar and the pin. The strap bar is 2 mm in width with the corroded folded-metal pin wrapped around its centre. At each end of the strap bar is a small lobed knop. The single remaining loop has an angled frame which is D-shaped internally in plan; the loop is narrow at the strap bar but widens towards the angled mid-point of the outer edge which is triangular in plan. The buckle is otherwise plain with no evidence of any surface decoration.
Whitehead (1996) illustrates a similar spectacle buckle with an angled frame and knops at either end of the strap bar on p.55, no.314 which is dated from c.1500-1650.
