A sheet metal Medieval gilt copper-alloy rectangular buckle plate. c.13th - 15th century in date.
Description: The plate is formed from a rectangular sheet of copper-alloy fold over itself with a rectangular hole at the fold paralell the length of the plate to allow the inclusion of a now missing buckle pin. A the opposite end there is rectangular indents perpendicular to the plate. The plate is decorated with two diamonds formed by parallel lines. There is an insitu rivet hole at one end through which a rusted Iron rivet remains.
Measurement: 32.57mm long, 13.71mm wide, 9.08mm thick (due to plate bending, original thickness likely 4.28) and 5.04g in weight.
Discussion: The exact date of this plate is uncertain its decoration seems likely to point to a medieval date, NMS-6A9C46 is similar but not a close example.
