A copper alloy button of Post-Medieval date, about AD 1662 - 1700. It is convex and the front carries a moulded design of a female bust left, a queen, wearing a crown on the back of her head, with a single flower before and behind. In the centre of the reverse is an integral, flat lug with a circular perforation. The button has a smooth, dark brown patina. It is 26.6mm in diameter and 10.8mm thick. It weighs 10.42gm.
A very close parallel is NARC-38AE02 which is interpreted as Catherine of Braganza, wife of Charles II, probably made to commemorate their wedding. The record cites Read p.54, no.188. Compare also PUBLIC-7509B5 which may be an example of the companion button depicting King Charles. Other buttons depict Catherine as a forward facing figure: eg NMS-7A32D1.
