A cast lead alloy Early Medieval to Medieval spindle whorl, of Walton Rogers type B1, dating from about AD 900 - 1200, and possibly earlier or later. It is of rectangular section, with flat upper and lower surfaces and slightly angled sides. There is a central perforation which is a rounded square in shape, of internal diameter 9mm. There is no decoration. There is some slight damage in the form of a groove across one face. The whorl has a light grey patina. It is 27.1mm in diameter and 9.8mm thick. It weighs 43.2g.
