An incomplete copper alloy Colchester Derivative brooch dating to the Roman period (c. AD 75-175). The remains of the brooch consist of the head with both partial wings, and part of the bow. The spring, pin, foot and catchplate are all missing. The head of the brooch is concave to the reverse to accommodate the now missing spring. Both wings taper towards worn breaks, as does the bow of which roughly one third remains. There are no decorative features apparent on the remains of the object. The brooch is very worn with a dark green patina.

A probable comparable example can be seen in Mackreth vol. 2 (2011: 49, plate 46, no. 1897).

The overall dimensions are as follows: 21.04mm in length, 17.07mm in width, 12.8mm in thickness and 5.42g in weight.

Class: Colchester Derivative, Polden Hill
