An incomplete copper alloy Buckle frame of Medieval date (AD 1350-1425). The object has an oval frame with an integral spacer. The frame, on the outer edge at the apex, has a small triangular integral protrusion with a notch for the pin. The upper surface of the frame is sub-D-shaped in section. Integral to the strap bar is a forked spacer. There are two arms to the spacer which taper to a blunt point, although it has a straight and parallel exterior edge. The pin and plates are missing.
The surface of the buckle frame has a dark brown pitted patina.
Length: 38.81mm, Width: 20.41mm, Thickness: 2.38mm, Weigh: 2.7g.
Margeson (1993) illustrates a similar example, No. 137 and dates this to the 14th century. Egan and Pritchard (Egan and Pritchard 2002) illustrate similar buckles with integral spacers (Nos. 322 to 330) which are dated to the mid 14th to early 15th century.
