An early post-medieval copper-alloy strap fitting from a sword belt hanger, dating to the period 1500 to 1700.The plate is sub triangular in shape with a trifoliate terminal and decorated with foliate decoration. There is a forward-facing globular-ended hook. There are two rivet holes, both of which retain the iron rivets. Suspended from the hook is a copper alloy suspension loop the outer edge of which is bevelled.
Originally this object would have been one of three similar plates, which would have hung from a mount.See Read 2008, 220 No. 793 for a reconstructed example.
