A Post Medieval lead alloy button dating to the period c.AD 1600-1700. The button is discoidal or slightly hexagonal, with an integrally cast shank projecting from the reverse but now broken c2mm from its base. The front is slightly convex and the back probably originally flat, though the button has been bent at some point such that the back is partially slightly concave.

The front of the button has a raised border c1mm in width created by an incised line running around the circumference of the button. This incision displays brown corrosion products rather than the mid-grey of most of the rest of the face. Within this border there is a relief design of a flower with six rounded petals separated by six narrow leaves or sepals. The central part of the face c5.5mm in diameter may have contained another small flower but is too worn to be certain and may have been a central flatted knop or large pellet. The back of the button is undecorated, showing mould lines and brown corrosion products around the base of the remains of the sub-circular shank that ranges in width from 3.3mm to 3.9mm.

The closest equivalent identified in Read (2005: 65, no. 250) is dated to the 17th century.

The button is 15.5mm in diameter, with a thickness of 1.8mm at the rim and 4.7mm across the shank site, the shank projecting c2mm from the back; it weighs 2.66g
