Object type certainty: Possibly
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

An incomplete post-Medieval copper-alloy anthropomorphic dress-hook (c. 1500-c. 1650). Read Class E, Type 3.

The hook element is missing due to a break.

The trapezoidal attachment loop is bevelled internally and externally at the front. The oval plate has a beaded rim and contains a raised classical-style human bust facing left. At the junction between the plate and hook there is a double pellet. On the reverse the attachment loop is flat and the plate is hollow.

Length: 24.6mm; width of loop: 13.0mm; width of plate: 12.6mm; thickness: 2.4mm. Weight: 1.80g.

Dress-hooks with human masks and busts have been published (Read 2008: 92-94, refs: 321-336), 336 is a close parallel.
