A complete cast cooper-alloy hooked asymmetrical strap mount dating to the Post Medieval period (c. AD. 1600-1700). The mount has a sub-cordate plate which is D-shaped in section, with a concave upper-edge. This extends to a slightly wider collar before the D-sectioned hook with a squared-off terminal. The plate has two in situ circular-sectioned iron rivets, located centrally, one above the other, extending to the reverse. The strap fitting measures 27mm in length, has a maximum width of 12mm and a maximum thickness of 2mm. The strap fitting weighs 2.39 grams. See Read (2001, p. 30, nos. 359-360) for similar examples and their possible use as sword scabbards on belts.
