Copper alloy Royal Artillery Button 1790 to 1840AD. The button is flat and circular in plan. It has a recessed shield-shaped panel at the front. The panel contains three vertically stacked cannons in relief. In a band above the cannons three bezants are separated by a stack of three cannon balls. The back has a separate soldered copper-alloy wire loop which is bent to one side. The diameter is 20mm and the weight 2.58g.
The shield displays the arms of the Board of Ordnance, which were granted in 1806 and confirmed in 1823.
