An incomplete artefact of unknown date and function; it is most likely to be part from a knife handle (counter weight) of post medieval date. The plate is an irregular octagonal shape (square with the corners removed) and rectangular in cross section. Through the centre is a rectangular slot (7.8mm x 2.6mm). The upper surface is plain and undecorated whilst the lower has a series of scratched marks - most probably through movement in the soil. The piece is a mid-grey colour and is most likely to be a lead alloy. A direct parallel has not been found.

The artefact measures 27.4mm long, 28.1 mm wide, 5.4mm thick across the body; it weighs 33.59 grams.
