A medieval cast lead alloy pointed oval (vesica shaped) seal matrix c.1200-1350. Flat and pointed oval in plan with the remains of a suspension loop on the top that is now mostly missing. The face has a fleur-de-lis in the centre within a single oval line. The inscription around it apears to read "S ' ALICE FIL' DAMONI'S", This translates as Seal of Alice daughter of Dammond. The inscription is notable for having no initial mark.. The top is decorated with a floral spray. Length 28.0 mm, width 21.7 mm, thickness 3.8 mm and weight 11.7 grams.
This matrix fits with a group of commonly reported simple lead personal seal matrices dating to the 13th - mid 14th (Harvey and McGuinness 1996. 79-80), of which pointed oval examples are most commonly found with women's names.
