A clipped silver penny of Henry VI (first reign, 1422-1461), York mint , leaf-pellet coinage (1445-1454), initial mark: IIIb (North 1510A). Ref: North 1991: 80.

Obverse description: Bare-shouldered facing bust, open crown with ornaments which appear to touch, pellet to either side of crown, leaf on breast, hollow at throat, initial cross IIIb.

Obverse inscription: +hEN[---]REXx[---]I (saltire stops)

Reverse description: Long cross, three pellets in each angle, a tiny additional pellet in second and fourth quarters; central quatrefoil.

Reverse inscription: CIVI/[TAS]/EBO/RACI

Diameter: 16.9mm, Weight: 0.83gms, die axis: 10

Notes:

Found with two other late medieval pennies from the York mint, NLM-2492A6 and NLM-24B662, all within an area of c.40 metres; all are lightly clipped. They may constitute parts of a disturbed hoard. If other comparable coins have been retrieved from the immediate vicinity by other finders, they, too, may in due course have to be considered as part of the same putative group. This is listed as Treasure case 2018 T622.
