Fragment of copper alloy late Saxon decorated strap end. Probably Thomas class E; originally tongue-shaped but broken at the upper end where it bifurcates to take the strap, and at the lower end in a transverse break before the tongue-shaped terminal. Extant on the edge of the upper break is the curved intrusion of a partial rivet hole. High-relief scrolls and curving geometric patterns on the front face with possible remains of niello within. Circa AD800-1000.
