BUCKLE

Unique ID: LIN-D3FAE3

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A medieval copper alloy buckle plate. The plate is flat, rectangular, and has an incomplete frame. The attachment end of the plate is decorated with two concave areas, creating an undulating edge. The body of the plate is decorated with two slender rectangular recesses which might be imitating windows or niches, or some other aspect of ecclesiastical architecture. A rivet hole and hole for a pin are located next to the recesses.

Similar buckle plates depicting arches, windows, or niches are known, though these occur more often on openwork plates such as NMS-283FD7. See also SOM-C66CC2 for an openwork example set against a backplate.
