A sub-circular disc-like lead alloy object, probably a vessel repair ('pot-mend') of Roman to medieval date. The vessel mend is crudely made with the remains of a shank on one side - the opposing side is pitted and uneven. These objects are very hard to date without contextual information. Suggested date: AD 43-1500. For comparison see NLM-61DCBD. The diameter is 20mm and the weight 20.38g.
Pot mends of this form are found in both Roman and Medieval periods, as a common way to repair broken pottery vessels. The lack of any vessel material left in the groove means they cannot be dated directly. However, they were found near mostly Roman artefacts, therefore a Roman dating is possible.
