An incomplete cast copper-alloy bow brooch of Colchester Derivative double-lugged form dating to the Roman period, c. AD 43-100. Only the pin and part of the spring are missing, the rest of the object preserved intact. It has a hemi-spherically sectioned head with a rearward-facing double lug projecting from its midpoint, through which are still threaded the remains of the spring and axis bar. The bow is 'D' shaped in section and crested, demonstrating a prominent central moulding running down its midpoint as this portion of the object tapers. At the foot of the brooch projecting from its rear face is a plain triangular catchplate with a rolled back edge intended to accomodate the original pin. Preserved in good condition with an even greenish patina, it measures 35.09mm in length, 21.33mm wide at its head and 4.24mm thick at the midpoint of the bow. It weighs 8.15g.
A similar brooch is published by Mackreth (2011) see vol. II, p. 38, no. 1471.
