Post Medieval cast copper alloy strap mount, dating to the 17th century AD. In plan the central and largest part of the mount is sub-triangular in shape, at the wide base-end there is a rectangular shaped projecting terminal whilst the opposite apex-end terminates in an acorn-shaped knop with a semi-circular base, transverse collar and rounded 'nut' coming to a point at the top. The reverse is flat with two integral circular sectioned attachment spikes, one near the centre and one near the base. Both are complete and bent over at 90 degrees towards the centre in opposing directions and taper to a rounded point. The mount is 26.1mm long and 10.9mm wide, it is 2.3mm thick excluding the spikes, 6.7mm including. It weighs 1.88g.
A similar mount from South Somerset has been dated by Read to the 17th century (Read 2001: 28 and 35, fig. 20, ref: 292). See SOM-FCCAD5 on this database for a less worn example.
