A complete cast lead and iron mount probably of post-Medieval date.
Description: The mount is circular in plan with moulded relief decoration in the form of a lion's head surrounded by its mane. The reverse is uneven with the remnants of two u-shaped iron pins or studs overlapping and embedded in it. The function of this object is unknown. The metal is a light grey colour and is worn.
Measurements: 31.5mm in diameter, 13.55mm thick and 50.81g in weight.
Discussion: A number of similar objects are known fromt he PAS e.g: LIN-66994E, LVPL-F93881 and YORYM-0E94A7. Many of these are fairly crudely made and variably worn, som elooking very recent as yet their funtion is uncertain but maybe harness mounts of some description. Until conclusive evidence of the use and date of this type of mount it should be considered prelimanary.
