A complete copper alloy Coin Weight of Post Medieval date (AD 1760-1773). The object is circular and flat and is for weighing the Portuguese Moidore and its fractions. This would have been part of a set of 11 weights for Guinea, Moidore and Johannes coins. The object is bi faced with the same design on each face. The design is composed of with the value of the weight, with the top row showing £ S, and the bottom row showing 3 : 12.
The Guinea series (21s, 10s 6d, 5s 3d) the moidore series (27s,13s 6d, 6s 9d) and the Johannes series (£3 12s, 36s, 18s, 9s,4s 6d). The obverse and reverse of this coin have exactly the same format; 9s for nine shillings (the English equivalent of the Portuguese value).
