A complete Medieval copper-alloy and gilded spur buckle with an integral plate (c. 1200-c. 1400).
This buckle is moulded at the front and largely flat on the reverse. The rectangular frame measures c. 20.5mm in length and 22.0mm in width. The outside edge is enlarged and has a circular knop or pellet at each outer corner on the front. Within the inside edge of the frame there is a circular hole (diameter 3.0mm) for the pin. The tapering flat pin with an open loop measures 13.0mm in length and 2.1mm in width at the loop. On the front of the pin, between the shaft and loop, a transverse ridge is barely visible. Just beyond the pin there is a separate dome-headed copper-alloy rivet. Between the frame and terminal at the attachment end a small neck is 'D'-shaped in cross-section. The terminal is in the shape of a stylised fleur-de-lis with ridges converging from the sides towards the neck. Where the ridges meet there is another dome-headed copper-alloy rivet which is the same size as the aforementioned one.
This buckle has a coarse green surface with traces of gilding at the front.
Length: 49.6mm; width: 22.0mm; width of terminal: 19.3mm; thickness: 3.8mm; thickness including rivets: 6.8mm. Weight: 8.93g.
Compare with a similar buckle which has a split integral plate: HAMP-65BE04.
