1 fragment of .white with flesh colour stripe, probable Roman wall plaster.
Description: Fragment is irregular shaped, with a sandy granular multi inclusion render and one flat painted surface, in this case white with a fleshy pale pink stripe. The colour on this piece is dififcult to pin down and maybe part of a figurative decorative motive, perhaps a leg or an arm bearing in mind we have white either side of the 'pink'. The colour is less common with roman wall plaster although relatively well known. .The flat painted surface is smooth with a sheen to it, but there are very fine lines, possibly brush marks when viewed in good light. The plaster or render is very pale, almost white, with inclusions of pottery and grit within and the painted area does not cover the whole piece..
Measurements: 51.15mm long, 34mm wide, 25.85mm thick and 41.76g in weight.
Discussion: These unprepossessing scraps are of importance because they may suggest the proximity of a building colourfully decorated according to Romanised tastes and indeed a known roman villa is in the vicinity of these fragment. KENT-ED8B5C is a similar example. Found in close proximinity to PUBLIC-668352.
