A Post Medieval copper-alloy strap fitting, mount or dress-fastener dating to the 17th century. The copper alloy strap mount is asymmetrical in plan decorated with a Green Man (a face amongst leaves), a trefoil knop at the upper end and an intergral rounded loop at the lower end (orientated with the face upright). The main section is moulded and convex on the front and concave on the rear. The face is heavily moulded with clear lips, nose and eyes. Foliate tendrils seem to start on the cheek and curve up the sides of the lower part of the face. The upper part is flanked by leaves or tendrils starting at the trefoil knop and running over the forehead.

The strap mount has two integral attachment spikes on the back which are bent towards each other down onto the back of the mount. The spikes are formed of flat rectangular strips with blunt ends. The upper spike starts on the back level with the base of the lowest trefoil leaf and extends downwards to c2mm of the base of the lower spike; the lower spike starts adjacent to the loop and bends up over the top of the upper spike, such that the two spikes overlap by c8mm.

The surface of the mount has developed a mid to dark-green patina but extensive gilding remains on the front and back.

Read (2008: 233) illustrates figurative strap-hooks which he dates to the 17th century, those shown (830 & 831) have full figures rather than just faces and have blunt hooks projecting from the upper end (opposite the loop) rather than two attachement spikes as on this example. The nearest equivalent mounts found are in Read (2001: 28), nos. 285-309, though none is a close match. He dates these to the 17thcentury and classifies them as asymmetrical, mostly flat mounts.

The mount measures 27.0mm in length, 13.1mm in width, 7.7mm in thickness including the lugs and weighs 3.78g.
