A complete silver sixpence of William III dating to AD1696 from the Exeter mint, and is number 3523 on page 369 in Spink, Coins of England and the United Kingdom. The obverse shows a laurate bust right, although badly worn. The legend is worn but is possible to read. Legend: GVL[I]ELMVS.III. D[EI.GRA]. There is a: E under the bust, which shows that the coin was made at the Exeter mint. Reverse is four shields in cruciform around a lion rampant in the centre. The four shields going clockwise from the date are: the three English Lions passant, a lion rampant, three fleurs-de-lis, and a harp, with a crown above each shield. The legend is visible. Legend: 16.96. MAG. [BR. FRE.] ET. HIB. REX. There is some wear on the reverse.
