Lead shot. Cast cylindrical slug, with one end flattened by an oblique impact against a hard surface; patinated. This probably served as a supplementary load to increase the 'stopping power' of a round fired from a smoothbore muzzle loading firearm of military specification: probably a pistol to judge from the diameter of the slug. The use of specialised forms of shot was especially characteristic of the 17th century. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1600-1700.
