A lead alloy ampulla of medieval date (c. AD 1250 -1550). The object is tongue-shaped. There are two suspension lugs which appear to be unpierced. The end of the lead 'bag' is open, possibly cut open below the crimping that would have sealed in the thaumaturgic liquid. It is also possible that this ampulla is unused, because, in addition to the unpierced lugs, there appears to be untrimmed casting flash around some edges. One face is decorated with a cross pattée in raised outline. The other side is decorated with radiating lines and hatching surmounted by a row of inverted triangles. This may represent an Archiepiscopal mantle, which is suggestive of the shrine of Thomas Becket.
