An Iron Age gold quarter stater attributed to the Belgae, dating to 60-20 BC, "Fishtailed Cross" type. Obverse: Fish tailed cross design, triple horse tails in each quarter. Reverse: triple tailed horse with wheel above and beaded annulet with central pellet below. Compares favourably to ABC 788, BMC 544.

This coin appears to have a line down the centre of the fishtail on the obverse, the ABC example and BMC 544 (ex Chris Rudd List 15, CCI 92.1605) don't. This coin has at least one strand of the tail which is beaded; the circle below the horse has a pellet in the centre and dots around; there are lots of pellets/dashes in front of the horses back leg, none of which feature on the ABC and BMC examples. Consequently there is reason to suggest that this is a new Fishtailed Cross type; perhaps a new Beaded Tail variant.

This is an excessively rare type, as only two examples of ABC 788 are known (ABC and BMC).
