A complete single-looped buckle with plate and pin dating to the Medieval period (c. AD 1250-1500). The buckle is D-shaped in plan with an off-set strap bar with linear decoration at either end of the bar. There is a constriction for the pin on the outer edge of the loop with inscised linear decoration on either side of the constriction. The plate is rectangular in shape with a moulded border running around the inside of the frame in a rope-like motif. Two rivets remain in situ attaching the front and reverse plates together. The pin is complete and rests in the constriction. The buckle has a dark green patina with traces of gilding across the face and reverse.

See Whitehead (1996: 19) no. 60 for a similar example.

The overall dimensions are as follows: 20.37mm in length, 18.66mm in width, 5.25mm in thickness and 4.39g in weight.

Class: Meols type 2
