An incomplete and damaged cast copper-alloy composite strap end dating to the Medieval period, c. 1250-1400. Composed of two plates and an internal spacer riveted together at their terminal and upper edge by means of two circular-sectioned copper-alloy rivets, the strap end now is missing part of one plate and has partially come apart due to old damage. In plan each plate has a broadly rectangular upper section which waists abruptly at its base before terminating in a stylised fleur de lis. No decoration is visible on the strap end, excepting for a quatrefoil-shaped cutout section at its midpoint. Preserved in rather poor condition with an uneven greenish patina, it measures 51.28mm in length, 11.75mm wide at its midpoint, and 2.47mm thick at its terminal. It weighs 4.22g.
A broad parallel has been published By Egan and Pritchard (1991) see p. 147, no. 703.
