A copper-alloy mount of Roman date. The mount is in the form of a bird, probably a duck, and may have originally been mounted on a vessel. It measures 28.1mm long by 12.2mm wide and 17.7mm high. The features of the bird are stylised. The body is sub-oval, tapering to a point at the tail, which is depicted by four closely-spaced transverse ridges. The wings are shown on each side by three parallel indented lines which extend to the tail section. The head and neck are angular and the beak is squared off at the end. The eyes are marked by two small indented dots. The underside of the piece is flat and has a central circular attachment with a flattened surface. The weight is 10.67g.
