Incomplete fragment of a cast copper-alloy cooking vessel or cauldron leg of Medieval to Post-Medieval date, c.AD 1100-1850. The leg fragment is sub-rectangular in plan with the sides tapering very slightly towards each other, rectangular in profile, and trapezoidal in section. The front of the object is decorated with two parallel vertical grooves creating a ribbed effect. The reverse is flat and undecorated. There are breaks at top and bottom of the object. The upper break is horizontal and the lower break is a slight diagonal, leaving the left side of the object longer than the right.

While it is not possible to allocate this fragment to a specific type it is likely to be from a large cooking vessel and dates from c.AD 1100 to c.AD 1850 when the use of cast iron cooking vessels predominates.

The metal has a greenish-brown patina and is worn. The fragment is 58.4mm long, 41.7mm wide, 16.3mm thick and weighs 158g.

Similar objects have been recorded on the database as LVPL-3C608D, YORYM-D6E32C, and YORYM-F9B9B5.

Vessel legs of this type are discussed and illustrated in Butler, Green, and Payne (2009), p.4 and p.6, fig. 4.
