A copper alloy strap slide dating to c.1150 to 1400. The slider consists of a single, trapezoidal loop with as curved outer edge. There are a pair of opposed internal triangular projections about a quarter of the way up the sides of the frame. The sides of the frame are rectangular in section apart from the longer upper edge which has a rounded top.
Reference: Egan and Pritchard (1991: 234) illustrate a number of similar examples, including ref. 1265 which they assign to a late 12th to late 14th century date. They note that the type with internal projections are thought to be the earliest form, and were attached by passing one end of a strap through the narrower end of the aperture below the projection, leaving the wider top part for the other end of the strap (ibid: 231).
