A copper-alloy fragment from the body of a cauldron. All of the edges are broken and uneven and the shallow curve of the wall suggests a large cauldron with a diameter of about 380 mm, that might hold about 7 gallons. The interior of the fragment is smooth and unencrusted. Much of the exterior is covered in a layer of burnt organic matter but has a very fine granular texture, suggesting a date of manufacture of the end of the 17th century, or later. Across the outer surface of fragment is a raised decorative band or 'wire' in the casting, that is 3 mm wide. Below this is an elongated triangular moulding 40 mm in length and 17 mm wide where it blends with the wire. The moulding projects to a height of 3 mm from the body which is 3 mm thick. The resulting decorative effect is of an inverted triangle or 'dog-tooth' suspended from the wire; it is impossible to say whether this is one of a series which may have decorated the entire circumference of the vessel or a single object. Alternatively, the shape might also be seen as a stylised letter 'T' or an 'I'. The high quality of the founding and of the copper alloy are consistent with the products of the Sturton Foundry of South Petherton, Somerset which operated between 1630 and 1712.

Butler and Green (2003) illustrate many examples of the products of this foundry; the large cauldrons illustrated on p.117, nos.116 and 117, are relevant examples. On p.116. no.115 is an illustration of a large skillet from the Sturton Foundry which is notable for an inverted triangular moulding on its surface which forms Part of a founder's mark known as a 'Chinese I'.

A rim fragment from likely the same cauldron was found nearby and is recorded in CORN-0EAC18.
