Unique ID: CORN-0E8A0A

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A cast copper-alloy open-topped thimble or sewing ring, now sub-circular in plan as the sides have come together, and rectangular in profile. The surface is corroded and has some iron staining on the exterior, and the circumferences of both the upper and lower edges are damaged but preserve short sections of the original edges: 8 mm on the lower edge and 2.5 mm on the upper edge. The outer face has been hand punched with four rows of irregularly-spaced circular pits or indentations. Egan (2005) on page 132, fig.126, no.648 illustrates a similar sewing ring from Fastolf Place, Southwark which is dated from the late 15th to the early 16th century.
