An early-medieval gold tremissis of Merovingian 'National Series' (584-750) issued by an unknown ruler, c.590-670, possibly mint: Cologne, moneyer: Gaucemare.

Obverse description: Degenerate diademed bust right; this reporter sees a large L-shaped stroke for the nose, with thick lips below and a large eye immediately left of the nose. Three pellets lower left may be the lace of the diadem. Legends below are offered on a 'looks like' basis, and this reporter would cheerfully defer to a better qualified authority.

Obverse inscription: GAVCVM>R[ ]

Reverse description: Central cross potent over one larger and three smaller pellets forming a Calvary.

Reverse inscription: COLVNIA VIT (possibly)

Diameter: 10.7mm, Weight: 1.23gms, die axis: probably 7
