The backplate of a late post medieval gold locket. The remaining part of the locket is made from thin gold sheet. The outer face of the backplate has a stamped floral design with continuous leaf pattern around the edge which develop in five places as defined leaves towards the centre around an open lily type flower. There is a very small amount of copper alloy wire protruding from the rim which may have originally been part of the inside of a loop for hanging the locket or may just have provided a rigid inner framework for the edge of the backplate. On the inside the thin gold sheet is folded over and pressed down to form a complete seal. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1775-1900
