An unknown cast lead object, possibly a hook, peg or rivet; alternatively it could have been used to mend a vessel or change its use. It comprises a sub-circular, slightly convex disc (but not uniformly so), and a shaft extending from the centre of the concave side of the disc. There is a small hole c 2mm in diameter, half way between the base of the shaft and the edge of the disc, and there are traces of another similar hole c 16mm away. The shaft is angled upwards from a line joining the two holes such that it make an internal angle of c 20 degrees with the upper side of the disc. The object is covered in a white patina.
The disc varies from 38.5mm to 33.7mm in width, and between 2.2mm and 3.8mm in thickness around the rim. The shaft tapers from an oval cross-sectioned 13mm x 10.5mm at the base (the 10.5mm being parallel to a line joning the two holes), to 7.3mm at the point; the shaft is 35.6mm in length. The distance from the convex side of the disc to the furthest side of the shaft is 18.3. The object weighs 58.03 grams.
The date of the object is unknown but the context of its find was with a large number of Roman sites; however, there were also modern finds at the site.
