CLOTH SEAL

Unique ID: DEV-87A5A9

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

An incomplete Post-Medieval lead cloth seal, probably dating to AD 1603-1625. Discs 1 and 2 of a 2- or 4-part seal, disc-1 being stamped with a sub-rectangular deeply incuse stamp, but otherwise plain, disc-2 with the intials I:R.

Dimensions: length 24.6mm; width 19.4mm; thickness 3.1mm; weight 6.39g.

The intials are probably an abreviation of IACOBVS REX, suggesting an attribution to the reign of James I.
